A long time ago in France, soldiers wore colorful scarves around their necks. King Louis XIV loved them so much that everyone else started wearing them too! Over hundreds of years, those big puffy scarves got thinner and longer until they became the necktie we wear today. It started as a wind protector for sailors and soldiers, then turned into a fancy accessory for kings, and finally became the uniform for office workers.
