Why Did Civilizations Collapse So Often?

What Is a Collapse?

Imagine you build the biggest LEGO castle ever. It looks amazing for years. Then one day, someone knocks over the central tower, and suddenly the whole thing falls apart.

Civilization collapse is when big societies that seem strong just... break. It does not always mean everyone dies or war destroys everything. Sometimes it is just that life gets too hard, so people stop paying taxes, leave their cities, and go back to farming in small villages. The big government shrinks.

Why Does It Happen?

Think of a society like a game of Jenga. You can pull out blocks (like food shortages or bad leaders) for a long time. But eventually, you might pull the last block needed to hold it all up. When that happens, the tower falls fast.

Was It Just Bad Weather?

Sometimes yes! If it stops raining and crops die, people get hungry. Hungry people get grumpy. Grumpy people stop building roads and fighting wars for their king. They just want to eat and sleep. So the big city starts looking like a small town again.
