Why Can We Sometimes See The Moon During The Day?

We can sometimes see the moon during the day because it’s still out there, just like a toy you leave on your bed when you go to play outside.

Imagine the sun is like a bright flashlight in the sky. When it's shining, it lights up everything around it, that's why we can see things clearly during the day. Now, think of the moon as a big, shiny ball that’s also floating in the sky, but farther away than the sun.

Sometimes, the moon is high enough in the sky and not too close to the sun, so even though the sun is bright, we can still see the moon, just like how you can see a toy on your bed even if the lights are on, it's just not as bright as the lights.

The moon moves around Earth in a path called an orbit, kind of like how you walk around the room when you're playing. Depending on where it is in its orbit, sometimes it ends up in the sky at the same time as the sun, and that's why we can see it during the day!
