Why are we going back to the Moon? - BBC World Service?

We’re going back to the Moon because it’s like our next-door neighbor, we want to visit more often and learn from them.

Imagine you have a toy robot that can walk, talk, and even do simple math. You’ve used it every day for years, but now you decide to take it apart and see how it works inside. That's kind of what we're doing with the Moon, we want to explore more of its surface and learn how to use it better.

Why the Moon?

The Moon is close enough that we can visit easily, like going from your house to a friend’s house next door. It also helps us understand space better, just like learning about your friend helps you know more about other kids at school.

What We Can Do There

We can build bases on the Moon, think of them like summer camps but in space! These bases will help us store supplies and maybe even grow food. One day, we might even be able to use the Moon as a stopover for trips to Mars, just like how you might stop at your friend’s house before going to another kid’s party.

Going back is like saying: “Hey, neighbor! Let’s hang out more, I think we can have some really fun adventures together!”We’re going back to the Moon because it’s like our next-door neighbor, we want to visit more often and learn from them.
