Why Are There Only 12 Notes?

There are only 12 notes because they fit together perfectly, just like pieces of a puzzle.

Imagine you have a spinning wheel with 12 colored sections, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and so on. Each color represents a note, and when the wheel spins, it makes music. Now imagine that each time the wheel goes around, it gives you a new sound that matches the ones before, they all work together like best friends.

Why Not More?

If we added more than 12 notes, the puzzle wouldn’t fit as well. It would be like trying to put together a jigsaw with too many pieces, some of them just don’t match up nicely anymore. The 12 notes are like the perfect group that makes music sound smooth and happy.

Why Not Fewer?

If we had fewer than 12, we wouldn’t have enough different sounds for all the songs we know. It would be like only having two flavors of ice cream, not very exciting!

So, 12 notes are just right, like a perfect number of friends to play music with!
