Imagine you're living with your family, and everyone takes turns watching the sun. When it rises in the morning, that’s one part of the day. When it sets at night, that’s another part. Ancient people noticed this pattern and divided a full day into two parts: daytime and nighttime. Later on, they added more divisions until we had 24 hours, like slices of a big pie.
Examples
- A clock face has numbers from 1 to 12, just like there are 12 hours on each side of the day.
- You might count your time by how many times the sun rises and sets.
