Why are solar flares a threat to modern technology?

Solar flares are big bursts of energy from the Sun that can mess up our gadgets and computers on Earth.

Imagine the Sun is like a giant battery, and sometimes it gets so excited it sends out a flash, kind of like when your friend accidentally knocks over a tower of blocks and they all crash down at once. That flash is a solar flare.

Solar flares can cause problems for the power lines that bring electricity to our homes, just like how a big wave in the ocean might knock down some sandcastles on the beach. If the power lines get knocked around too much, it can make lights go out and computers freeze.
