Why are black holes scary

Black holes are scary because they can swallow things whole, even light!

Imagine you're playing hide-and-seek in a really big room. If someone hides behind a wall that's super strong and keeps getting stronger the closer you get, it might feel pretty scary. That’s kind of like what happens with black holes.

What makes them so powerful

A black hole is like a vacuum cleaner for space. It has an event horizon, which is like the edge of the vacuum, once something goes past that edge, it can't come back. The more stuff it swallows, the stronger it gets.

Even light, the thing that helps us see everything, can’t escape if it gets too close. That’s why we call them black holes. They’re so dark, you can’t even see them from far away.

What happens to things that get swallowed

If something like a spaceship or a person gets too close, they get stretched out, kind of like taffy. This is called spaghettification. It’s not very fun if you're the one getting stretched!

So black holes are scary because they’re super strong and can swallow even light, and maybe you too!
