New Zealand is run by a government, which is like a team of people who help make important decisions for everyone.
Imagine your class has a teacher and some helpers, they decide things like when you have breaks, what subjects you study, and even what happens if someone doesn’t do their homework. That’s kind of like how the government works in New Zealand.
The big boss of the government is called the Prime Minister, who's like the head teacher. They lead a group of people called members of Parliament, who are like your class helpers, they listen to what people want and help make decisions too.
There’s also a King or Queen who lives in another country, but they don’t do much decision-making, it's more like having a famous relative who signs letters sometimes. In New Zealand, that person is called the Head of State, and right now it's King Charles III.
So, the government works together to help run the country, just like your class team helps run your day at school!
