Who is Younger Dryas?

Younger Dryas is like when Earth took a big, cold nap after a warm party.

Imagine you're playing with your toys in a cozy room, that's like the Earth being warm and happy. But then someone turns off the heat, and suddenly it's chilly outside, that’s what happened during the Younger Dryas. It was a time when the Earth got much colder again, even though it had been getting warmer.

What Caused the Cold Nap?

Scientists think that a huge wall of ice, called a glacier, came down from North America and blocked the path of warm ocean currents. These currents are like rivers of heat that help keep the Earth warm, when they got blocked, it was like turning off the heater in your room.

How Long Was the Nap?

This cold nap lasted for about 1,000 years! It started around 12,900 years ago and ended around 11,700 years ago. After that, the Earth slowly warmed up again, like when you finally turn the heater back on after a long winter.
