Who is Western Ghats?

The Western Ghats are like a big, green mountain range that runs along the west side of India, like a wall made of trees and rocks.

Imagine you're playing with building blocks, each block is a mountain or hill. Now picture those blocks stacked together in a long line, all covered in forests and plants. That’s what the Western Ghats are like! They stretch from the south of India up to the north-west, and they’re full of life, animals, birds, rivers, and even special kinds of trees you can’t find anywhere else.

Like a Forest Guardian

Think of the Western Ghats as a giant forest guardian. It helps keep the rain coming to many parts of India. When it rains on these mountains, water trickles down into rivers and lakes, like how water flows from your bathtub into the drain, but instead of going to the sewer, it goes to places where people can drink and grow crops.

The Western Ghats are also home to lots of animals, some are so special that they live only there! It’s kind of like having a secret club for animals.
