Who is Statue of Liberty?

The Statue of Liberty is a giant, friendly lady standing in New York Harbor to welcome people from far away.

What Does She Look Like?

Imagine your favorite superhero, tall, strong, and smiling. That’s the Statue of Liberty! She has a big hat on her head called a turban, and she holds up a torch like it’s a flashlight. In her left hand, she holds a book with the words “Liberty” written on it, that means freedom!

Why Is She There?

She was built by people from another country, France, to say thank you to America for helping them during a big fight called the American Revolution. It’s like if your friend gave you a cool present after you helped them with their homework.

She has been welcoming new friends (called immigrants) who came to live in America for many years. She stands tall and strong, like a warm hug from across the sea!
