Who is Secondary Appraisal?

Secondary Appraisal is like when you figure out how good your idea is after you've already thought of it.

Imagine you're playing a game where you have to pick a toy from a box, and then decide if it's the best one for you. First, you think about what toys are in the box, that’s like Primary Appraisal. But once you’ve picked one, you start asking yourself questions: Is this toy big enough? Does it make noise? Will my friend like it too? That's Secondary Appraisal, it's when you check if your choice is actually good for the situation.

Like Picking a Snack

Let’s say you're at a snack bar and you see cookies, candy, and fruit. You pick a cookie because you love them, that's Primary Appraisal. But then you think: Are there more cookies left? Will I get hungry again later? That’s Secondary Appraisal, it's like having a second thought to make sure your choice is smart.

Secondary Appraisal helps you decide if what you're doing or thinking is going to work out, just like checking if your snack will last all day.
