Royal Assent is when a king or queen says “yes” to a new law that people have made.
Imagine you and your friends want to start a club in your school. You all agree on the rules, like who can join and what games you'll play. But the teacher still needs to say “okay” before the club officially starts. That’s kind of like Royal Assent, it’s the final step that makes a new law real.
How It Works
When people in the government want a new law, they write it down and debate about it. Once they agree on the details, they bring it to the king or queen (or sometimes another member of the royal family). If the king or queen says “yes,” that’s Royal Assent, and now the law is real, just like your teacher saying yes to your club.
Why It Matters
Even though the king or queen might not be involved in every decision, their say makes sure everything is official. It's like having a special stamp on your club rules, it means everyone has to follow them!
Examples
- A king or queen gives their final okay to a new law after it's passed by Parliament.
- Royal Assent is like the last step in making a new rule.
- If there's no Royal Assent, a bill can't become a law.
