Who is Rocky Mountains?

The Rocky Mountains are a big group of tall hills that run across parts of North America like a long, wiggly line.

Imagine you're playing with blocks, if you stack them really high, they look like mountains. The Rocky Mountains are just like that, but instead of blocks, they’re made of rocks and dirt that were pushed up over millions of years by the Earth’s moving parts. It's kind of like when you press your hands together on a soft bed, it squishes down, then pops back up.

The Rocky Mountains are super long, they stretch from Canada all the way to New Mexico, which is almost as far as from one end of a really big playground to the other. Some parts are so high that you could fit five school buses stacked on top of each other just to reach the top.

You can hike through them, ski down their slopes in winter, or even see animals like bears and elk living among the trees. They’re not magic, they're just really old and really strong hills that have been around for a very long time.
