Pacific Time Zone is a group of places that all follow the same clock rules so everyone can stay in sync.
Imagine you and your best friend live far apart, maybe one of you lives on the East Coast, and the other is out West. If both of you go to bed at 9 PM, it might feel like you're going to sleep at different times because your clocks are showing different numbers. That’s where time zones come in!
How Pacific Time Zone Works
Think of Earth as a giant clock, it has 24 hours all around it. When the sun is up in one part of the world, it's nighttime somewhere else. The Pacific Time Zone covers places like California, Oregon, and Washington. They all use the same time so people can plan playdates, watch shows together, or even do homework at the same time.
Sometimes, when summer comes, these places move their clocks forward by one hour, that’s called Daylight Saving Time, just like how your mom might set your alarm a little later on weekends.
Examples
- A teacher explains that different parts of the country have different times because of where they are located.
- A family on vacation notices that it's already nighttime in Los Angeles when it's still morning in Chicago.
