Who is Oceanic Anoxia?

Oceanic Anoxia is when the ocean runs out of air, like a fish bowl that stops getting fresh water.

Imagine you have a big fish tank with your goldfish. Every day, you add some fresh water to keep it from getting too dirty and smelly. But if you stop adding fresh water for a long time, the water gets really yucky, and your goldfish might get sick or even die, that’s kind of like Oceanic Anoxia.

What Makes the Ocean Lose Its Air?

In real life, the ocean gets its air from plants and tiny sea creatures, which make oxygen when they grow. But sometimes, too much waste and carbon dioxide pile up in one place, like a mess in your fish tank. This makes it hard for oxygen to reach the bottom of the ocean, it's like your goldfish can’t swim near the top anymore.

How Does It Affect Life?

When the ocean loses its air, big changes happen. Some sea creatures that need oxygen might die off or move away, just like how some fish would leave a dirty tank. This can make life in the ocean feel lonely and strange, kind of like when your goldfish is all alone in a messy bowl!
