Who is Norman Conquest of England?

The Norman Conquest of England was when a new group of people from France took over England and changed how it was ruled.

Imagine you're playing with your toys in your room, that's like being the king of England, right? But then a bigger kid comes in and says, "I want to play with these toys too!" That bigger kid is William the Conqueror, from Normandy in France. He came across the sea with his army and won a big battle at Hastings.

After that, William became king, and he brought new rules, language, and ways of living to England, kind of like when you start using a new game rule that everyone has to follow.

How it changed things

  • The old kings were like your friends who used to play with you.
  • William was like the new kid who came in and said, "Now I’m the boss!"

Everyone had to learn French for a while, not because it was magic, but because that’s what the new king spoke.

It was like getting a new teacher at school who changes how lessons are taught, and suddenly you're learning new things!
