Who is Jacob Bekenstein?

Jacob Bekenstein is a scientist who helped us understand how black holes work and what happens to information when it goes inside them.

Imagine you have a toy box that can swallow everything you put in, toys, blocks, even your favorite dinosaur. Once something goes in, you can’t see it anymore, and you don’t know what’s inside. That's like a black hole. Jacob wanted to figure out if the things we drop into black holes just disappear forever or if they leave some kind of clue behind.

He discovered that even though black holes seem empty from the outside, they actually have something called entropy, which is like how messy or organized something is inside. The more information you put in a black hole, the more "messy" it gets, and this can be measured!

Jacob also worked with another scientist named Stephen Hawking to show that black holes are not completely empty, they can actually glow and slowly shrink over time. That glowing is called Hawking radiation.

So Jacob Bekenstein helped us understand that even the most mysterious things in space, like black holes, follow rules we can learn about, just like how your toy box might have its own hidden secrets too!
