Who is Jackson Pollock?

Jackson Pollock was a painter who made art by moving around and letting paint flow freely on big canvases.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite spray bottle, the one you use to make rain in your kitchen. Now imagine you have a huge piece of paper, like the floor of your room, and instead of just spraying it from one spot, you run around, swinging the bottle, making long lines and splashes all over the paper. That’s kind of what Jackson Pollock did, but with paint, not water.

How He Painted

Jackson used a special technique where he would pour or spray paint onto a canvas that was laying on the floor. He didn’t use brushes like most painters. Instead, he moved around the canvas, making big, wild patterns that looked like stormy skies or busy roads.

What His Art Looks Like

His paintings are full of color and movement, they feel alive! Some parts look like swirls of candy, and others look like a foggy morning with cars zooming through. You can almost hear the paint moving when you look at it.

Jackson Pollock’s art is fun to imagine because it feels like playtime, but also like a big, colorful dance!
