Doomsday Clock works like that big timer. It helps scientists and experts see how close we are to something important, like a big change in the world, maybe even one that could affect all of us.

Sometimes, the clock moves forward, like when you're playing a game and you lose a life. Other times, it moves backward, like when you get an extra life! Experts look at things happening in the world, like how we treat the planet or how we fight with each other, to decide whether to move the clock closer to midnight (when something big might happen) or farther away.
