Who is Deccan Traps?

The Deccan Traps are like a giant, fiery cookie that was smashed into the Earth a long time ago.

Imagine you're in a kitchen and you have a huge bowl of hot lava, not just any lava, but a lot of it. Now imagine someone dropped that whole bowl onto the ground with a big crash! That’s what happened with the Deccan Traps. Instead of a cookie, it was layers of rock and lava from deep inside the Earth.

Think of the Earth as having a very hot soup underneath its skin. Sometimes, that soup gets so bubbly and exciting it bursts out, like when you pop a balloon! The Deccan Traps were made by lots of these eruptions happening over millions of years. Each eruption added more layers to the land, just like stacking cookies in a jar.

These giant lava layers changed the Earth’s climate and even helped make room for new animals, including maybe dinosaurs! So even though it was all messy and hot at first, it made space for cooler things to grow later on.
