Christopher Columbus was a bold explorer who traveled across oceans to find new places.
Imagine you're playing with your toys and decide to go on an adventure to see what's on the other side of the room, that’s kind of what Christopher Columbus did, but instead of a room, he went across the big blue ocean to discover new lands.
The Journey Across the Ocean
Christopher Columbus wasn’t sure where he was going. He had a map, like the one you might use when playing with your toy cars and roads, but it wasn’t perfect. He sailed on big ships, think of them like giant toy boats, for many weeks, just like how you might sail in a bathtub with a small boat.
He finally reached a new place that was far away from where he started, this is now known as the Americas, but back then it had different names. His journey helped people realize there were more lands to discover beyond what they already knew, like finding a hidden treasure in your backyard!
