What Are the Big Five?

The Big Five are five main traits that describe how people usually act. Think of them as five superpowers:

  • Openness is like being curious, loving new things, like trying a weird flavor of ice cream.
  • Conscientiousness is like being organized, always remembering to put your toys away and doing your homework on time.
  • Extraversion is like being the life of the party, you love playing games with friends and telling jokes.
  • Agreeableness is like being kind, you like helping others, sharing snacks, and saying “you’re welcome.”
  • Neuroticism is like being sensitive, you might get worried easily or feel sad when things don’t go your way.

These five traits are like a special group of friends that help us see how people think, act, and react in the world around them.
