Where Did Democracy Come From, and Does It Still Work?

Democracy is like a group of friends deciding what to do by voting, and it started way back in ancient times.

Long ago, in a place called Greece, people lived in cities like Athens. Instead of one person telling everyone what to do, they voted on things like laws and leaders. It was like having a big classroom where every kid got to say their opinion, that’s democracy!

Democracy didn’t stay small forever. Over time, more people joined in the voting, and new ideas came along, like representatives who made decisions for groups of people. It was kind of like having a team captain who listened to what everyone wanted before making choices.

Today, democracy is used all over the world, in countries like America, India, and even your neighborhood! Sometimes it gets tricky, like when people disagree a lot, but that’s just like when you and your friends can’t agree on which game to play. You talk it out, and eventually, someone wins, or maybe you all choose something new!
