What Were the Romans?
A long time ago, there was a city called Rome, and the people who lived there were called Romans. They built big roads, had cool buildings, and even ruled other cities. It was kind of like being the class president, they were in charge of lots of places.
How Did They Become Italians?
Centuries later, when the Roman Empire fell apart, the city of Rome stayed, but people started calling themselves Italians instead of Romans. Think of it like your favorite team changing its name, the players are still there, but now they’re called something new.
Even though the names changed, the people were still living in the same place and speaking a similar language. It was just like how you might say “We’re still the best family, even if we change our house.”
So, the Romans became Italians slowly, not all at once, over many years, just like how you grow from a baby to a big kid.
