What's That Word: Trust?

Trust is when you believe someone will do what they say they'll do.

Imagine you're playing a game with your friend. You both agree that if you hide under the table, they'll count to ten and then shout "Boo!" So you go under the table, and they start counting: one... two... three... You wait, and when they get to ten, they say "Boo!", just like they promised. That's trust in action! It means you believe your friend will follow through on their promise.

What Happens When Trust Is Broken

Now imagine your friend hides under the table, and you start counting: one... two... three... But when they get to ten, they just say "I'm not going to do it!" That's breaking trust. It means they didn’t follow through on their promise, and now you might not believe them next time.

Trust is like a special kind of agreement between people. When you trust someone, you're saying, “You’ll do what you say.” And when they keep that promise, it makes the game, or your friendship, even more fun!
