Strong emergence is when big things happen from small parts, but you can’t predict those big things just by looking at the small parts alone.
Imagine you have a bunch of blocks, simple, plain blocks. Each block is just a block, nothing special about it. But if you put them together in a certain way, like building a tower or a bridge, suddenly you get something new that wasn’t there before: a strong, tall tower or a sturdy bridge.
That’s strong emergence, when the whole becomes something greater and different than its parts.

Think of LEGO bricks. Each brick is just a small square, right? But if you put them together in clever ways, maybe making a robot, or a castle, you get something cool, something that didn’t exist before. You couldn’t have guessed it was going to be a robot from just looking at one LEGO brick.
It’s like how ants work together, each ant is simple, but all together they can build whole nests and do amazing things.
So, strong emergence isn’t magic, it’s clever teamwork or clever building that makes something totally new.
