When you're asleep, your brain is still working hard, and sometimes it gets confused, that's what causes sleepwalking and nightmares.
Imagine your brain is like a toy factory. During the day, all the workers (your thoughts) are busy making toys (your memories). When you go to bed, some of them take a break (light sleep) and others go on vacation (deep sleep). If the workers who make happy toys get too tired or scared, they might start making scary toys, that's when nightmares happen. You're still asleep, but your brain is having a wild party with scary guests!
What About Sleepwalking?
Sometimes, the workers who are on vacation don’t want to stay asleep anymore. They get up and start walking around like they’re doing their job outside the factory, that's sleepwalking! It’s like when you wake up in the middle of the night and think you're just going to grab a glass of water, but your brain is still dreaming about being a superhero.
If you're lucky, you might even walk right into the kitchen and eat a snack while still asleep, it's like having a midnight snack party with your brain!
