What Makes a ‘Sunset’ Look So Magical?

A sunset looks special because the sky changes colors when the sun goes down.

When the sun is high up in the sky, it looks yellow or white, like a flashlight shining straight at you. But when the sun gets low, near the horizon, its light has to travel through more air before it reaches your eyes, just like how a toy car has to go around a bigger track to get to the finish line.

This longer journey makes some colors in the light fade away, and red or orange stays behind, making the sky look like it’s painted with warm crayons.

Imagine you're sitting on the floor of your room, looking at a big window that lets in sunlight. At first, the light is bright and white. But as the sun moves lower, the light gets softer and warmer, almost like it's hugging the sky. That’s why the sunset feels so peaceful and beautiful, like the end of a fun day.

The colors change because of how far the sunlight has to travel, just like how your voice sounds different when you shout from one end of the room to the other!
