A perfect storm is when three special things happen at the same time. First, a strong wind pushes water from the ocean toward land, like a big wave of water. Second, there’s a low-pressure area in the air that pulls weather in. Third, cold and warm water mix together under the sea. When all these come together, it makes an extra-powerful storm!
Examples
- A big wave hits the shore during a heavy rainstorm
- Cold water from the deep sea mixes with warm surface waters
