What is water?

Water is something you can drink, play with, and even swim in, it’s all around us!

What water feels like

Imagine you have a glass of water in your hand. It’s wet, not sticky or sandy. If you pour it into another cup, it just flows freely, kind of like how juice moves from one container to another. That's because water is made up of tiny parts called molecules that move around easily.

What water can do

When you turn on the tap and let the water run, it comes out in a stream, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. If you leave it outside when it’s cold, it turns into ice, which is like frozen water. When you heat it up, it becomes steam, invisible water that rises from your hot chocolate or soup.

Water can also be inside things: your body has water, plants use water to grow, and even the ground has water hidden underground. It’s one of the most common and friendly things on Earth! Water is something you can drink, play with, and even swim in, it’s all around us!
