What is volcanism?

Volcanism is when hot stuff from inside Earth comes out and makes a mess on the surface, kind of like when you open a pressure cooker and steam explodes everywhere.

What’s inside Earth?

Imagine Earth is like a giant chocolate bar, but instead of being sweet, it's hot and squishy. Deep inside, there are molten rocks, like lava, that are super heated and moving around. This molten rock is called magma, it's the messy stuff waiting to come out.

When does it come out?

Sometimes, when pressure builds up too much, the magma pushes its way through cracks or holes in Earth’s crust, just like when a soda bottle explodes if you shake it too hard and open it quickly. This is called an eruption, and that's what makes volcanoes go boom!

When the hot stuff comes out, it can make lava flows, ash clouds, or even cool rocks, all from the same mess inside Earth. It’s like a big, hot party happening underground, and sometimes it spills out to show everyone!
