What is viscous?

Viscous means something is thick and slow to move, like syrup or honey.

Imagine you're trying to pour honey from a jar. It doesn’t just whoosh out, it drizzles slowly, stretching and pulling as it goes. That’s because honey is viscous. Viscosity is how "thick" or "sticky" a liquid feels when it moves.

Like syrup vs water

If you pour water from a cup, it flows fast and easy, not viscous at all. But if you pour syrup, like the kind that comes with pancakes, it takes time to slide down the glass. Syrup is more viscous than water.

Think of it like this:

  • Water is like a group of kids who all run out of the classroom quickly.
  • Honey or syrup is like a group of kids who are all holding hands and moving slowly, they’re stuck together!

So, viscous means something moves slowly because it’s thick and sticky, just like honey!
