A victim is someone who gets hurt or upset because another person did something to them.
Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy car, and suddenly, your big brother grabs it and drives it into a wall. You feel sad and angry, that’s how a victim feels when something bad happens to them. Your toy car got damaged, and you were the one who got hurt by what your brother did.
What Makes Someone a Victim?
Sometimes, someone might not be strong enough to stop what's happening to them. Like if you're playing with a group of kids, and one kid takes all the toys, that kid is like the bad guy, and the others are like the victims because they didn't get to play.
Other times, people might do bad things without even realizing it. It's like when your friend accidentally spills juice on your shirt, you're still a victim, but it wasn’t meant to be mean.
Being a victim doesn’t always mean someone is weak, it just means something happened that made them feel upset or hurt, and they didn’t cause it themselves.
Examples
- A child who gets bullied at school is a victim because they're being hurt by someone stronger.
- Someone who is robbed on the street is a victim of crime.
