What is vaporization?

Vaporization is when a liquid turns into gas, just like water turning into steam.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite juice box on a sunny day. You open it up, and instead of drinking the juice right away, you leave it in the sun for a while. After some time, you notice that the juice isn't as full, there's air space at the top. That’s because part of the liquid evaporated, meaning it changed into gas.

How It Works

When a liquid is heated or left in the open, its molecules start to move faster and spread out more. Eventually, some of them escape into the air as gas, that's vaporization happening right before your eyes!

You can see this every time you boil water on the stove. The bubbles rising to the top are full of steam, which is water vapor.

A Fun Example

Think about a puddle after it rains. When the sun comes out, the puddle slowly disappears, that’s vaporization in action! It's like the puddle is saying goodbye by turning into invisible gas and joining the sky.
