What is UTC?

UTC is like a big clock that all the world uses to keep time straight.

Imagine you and your friends are playing a game where everyone has to do something at the same moment, like clapping or jumping. If no one agrees on when to do it, some people might be late, and the game doesn’t go smoothly. That’s what happens without UTC, different places think it's a different time.

How UTC Works

Think of UTC as the main clock in a big school. Every classroom (like every country) has its own clock, but they all follow the main one. Some classrooms might be ahead or behind because of where they are in the world, like how some kids get to school earlier than others.

When it's 12:00 UTC, it might already be 3:00 PM in New York and just 7:00 AM in Tokyo. But everyone still knows what time it is, because they’re all using the same starting point, the big clock, UTC.
