What is turbulence?

Turbulence is when liquid or gas moves in a wild, messy way instead of flowing smoothly.

Imagine you're pouring honey from a bottle, it flows slowly and evenly, right? That's like smooth flow. Now imagine you're pouring water from a shaken soda bottle, it splashes around, swirls, and jumps everywhere. That’s turbulence!

Like a Bumpy Ride

Turbulence is kind of like being on a bumpy car ride. When the road is smooth, you just glide along. But when there are potholes or hills, you feel every jolt, up, down, left, right. In the same way, turbulence makes the air or liquid go up, down, and all around in a messy dance.

The Big Example

When an airplane flies through turbulence, it’s like flying through a bumpy sky. Sometimes you feel like you're being pushed back into your seat, that's the air moving wildly around the plane!

Turbulence isn’t magic, it's just what happens when things move in a messy, fun way!
