What is trigonometry?

Trigonometry is like a special map that helps you figure out distances and angles using triangles.

Imagine you're playing with building blocks, some are squares, some are rectangles, but one of them is a triangle. That triangle has three sides and three corners, called angles. Now, if you know the size of one side or angle, trigonometry lets you figure out the rest, like solving a puzzle.

Think about climbing up a slide at the playground. If you know how long the slide is and what angle it makes with the ground, you can find out how high you’ll be when you reach the top, without even climbing!

Trigonometry uses special tools called sine, cosine, and tangent. These are like rulers or protractors that help measure sides and angles in triangles.

You use trigonometry every day, maybe without realizing it. When you’re drawing a picture, playing video games, or even baking a cake (imagine measuring ingredients with a triangle!), trigonometry helps make everything fit just right.
