The Treaty of Peking was like a big agreement between countries that helped them settle a disagreement over who gets to do what.
Imagine you're playing with your friends in the playground. One day, someone takes your favorite swing without asking, and you all get upset. To fix things, you sit down together and make rules so everyone knows how to share fairly, that’s kind of like what happened with the Treaty of Peking.
The Big Agreement
The Treaty of Peking was made in 1860 between China and some other countries, like England and France. They had been fighting over who should be allowed to trade and live in certain places, especially near Beijing.
This treaty meant that China had to give those countries special rights, like letting them live in parts of the city and do business without too many rules, kind of like giving your friend permission to use your swing every day.
A Happy Ending (for Some)
After the agreement was made, life got easier for the other countries. They could trade more freely, and they didn’t have to keep fighting to get what they wanted. China, on the other hand, had a little less control over its own land, but it was still a peaceful way to settle things!
