What is transparency?

Transparency is when you can see through something, just like looking through a glass window.

Imagine you're holding a clear plastic cup filled with water and tiny blue marbles inside. You can clearly see the marbles moving around because the plastic and water are transparent, they don’t block your view. Now imagine if that cup was made of black felt instead. You wouldn't be able to see the marbles at all, that's what we call opaque.

When Things Are Transparent

Some things, like glass, water, and even some kinds of paper, let light pass through them so you can see clearly on the other side. That’s why they're called transparent.

If something is not transparent, it might be translucent, like a cloudy soda bottle, where you can see shapes but not clear details. Or it might be opaque, like your socks, which block all the light and you can't see through them at all.

So, transparent means you can see clearly through something, just like looking out of a window on a sunny day!
