What is trade-off?

A trade-off is when you choose one thing but have to give up a little of something else.

Imagine you’re at the candy store. You really want a big chocolate bar, it’s super tasty! But it costs more than your small lollipop, which is just right for your pocket money. If you pick the big chocolate bar, you get more candy now, but you might not have enough money left for ice cream later. That's a trade-off, you’re getting something good, but you're giving up another good thing.

Choosing Your Snack

Let’s say you have two options:

  1. A big chocolate bar that fills your whole hand.
  2. A small lollipop that fits in one finger.

If you choose the big chocolate bar, you might be full of chocolate, but you can’t buy ice cream anymore. If you pick the lollipop, you save money for later treats.

It’s like when you have to decide between playing outside with your friends or staying inside to watch your favorite show, both are fun, but you can only do one at a time!
