Toast is food made from bread that has been cooked by heat.
What happens to the bread
When you put bread in a toaster, it gets warm inside and on the outside. The toaster uses something called electricity, which is like invisible energy that comes from the wall, to make the bread crispy. You can feel the difference when you bite into it: it’s harder and crunchier than regular bread.
How we eat it
People usually put jam, butter, or honey on toast. These are sticky, sweet things that melt a little when they touch the warm bread. It's like putting a soft, gooey friend next to your crunchy friend, and then eating them all together!
If you’ve ever eaten pancakes or waffles, you might notice that toast is simpler: it’s just bread, cooked until it’s golden and firm.
Examples
- A kid burns their toast because it was too close to the heat source.
- Someone uses a toaster for the first time and is amazed by how fast it works.
- A person eats toast every day but never thought about why they do it.
