What is music?

Music is like a fun game that your body and brain can play together.

Sound is what you hear when something moves through the air, like when you shake a bell or tap on a drum. Music happens when sound goes in a special pattern, just like how steps go up and down in stairs.

How music works

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy car. When you push it forward, it makes a vroom sound. If you push it faster, the vroom gets quicker, that's rhythm! Rhythm is like the beat of a drum or the tapping of your feet.

Now imagine you have different toys: one goes vroom, another goes beep, and another goes whoosh. When you put them together in order, it makes something fun to listen to, that's melody! Melody is like the story your music tells.

Music all around

You can find music everywhere, in songs on the radio, in the way rain taps on windows, or even in the sound of your heartbeat. Just like you enjoy playing with your toys, your brain enjoys listening to music too!
