What is the goal of China's Tianwen-2 asteroid mission?

China’s Tianwen-2 mission is like going on a treasure hunt to find and bring home a special rock from space.

Imagine you have a bag of marbles, but you want the shiniest one. That's what China is doing with Tianwen-2, it wants to find a special kind of asteroid, called a rare metal asteroid, and then bring some of its shiny, valuable stuff back home.

Like Collecting Special Marbles

The mission has two main parts:

  1. First, it visits an asteroid and takes a sample, like picking up one marble from the bag.
  2. Then, it goes to another place in space called a comet, and does something similar, like taking another special marble.

Finally, it brings these samples back to Earth so scientists can study them, just like you would look at your marbles under a magnifying glass to see what makes them special.

It’s not about magic, it's about curiosity and learning from space rocks that might help us build better things in the future.
