Hurricanes and typhoons are like brothers, they look the same, but they have different names depending on where they live. If a big storm happens in the Atlantic or the Pacific near North America, it's called a hurricane. But if the same kind of storm happens in the Pacific near Asia, it’s called a typhoon. It all depends on where the storm starts.
Examples
- Your brother might be a hurricane if he lives near the Atlantic coast, but a typhoon if he moves to Asia.
- Imagine your house is hit by a big storm that’s called a hurricane in the U. S., but it’s known as a typhoon when it hits the Philippines.
