What is text?

Text is words written down so we can read and understand them.

Imagine you have a favorite storybook. The text inside that book is all the letters and words you see on each page, like "Once upon a time" or "The end." That’s how stories are told, even when no one is speaking.

Like Drawing with Letters

Think of writing as drawing, but instead of using crayons, we use letters. Each letter is like a tiny picture that helps make up bigger pictures, words, and then sentences. When you put letters together, they become something you can read, just like how blocks stack up to make towers.

Text Everywhere

You see text everywhere! On your phone when you message a friend, on the grocery list at home, or even on signs outside your school. It's like leaving messages for others, text is how we write down our thoughts so others can read them too.
