What is teach?

Teach is when someone helps another person learn something new by showing them how it works.

Imagine you have a toy car, and you want to know how to make it go faster. Your big brother or sister sees you trying to push it, and they show you how to wind up the spring inside, that’s teaching! They’re helping you learn something new by showing you what to do.

• The person who is teaching usually knows more about the topic than the one learning.
• The learner gets to try things out and make mistakes, just like when you learn to tie your shoes or ride a bike.
• Sometimes, the teacher uses examples, like showing how winding up the toy car makes it zoom across the room.

You can be taught by anyone, parents, friends, even teachers in school. It doesn’t have to happen in a classroom. You might learn to count by playing with blocks or learn about shapes while drawing pictures. Teaching is just someone helping you understand something better, and it’s all around you!
