What is tachycardia?

Tachycardia is when your heart beats really fast, almost like it’s going on a race!

Imagine your heart is like a little drummer in your chest. Normally, it taps out a calm rhythm, thump-thump-thump, just right for you to play, run, or even nap. But with tachycardia, the drummer suddenly starts tapping super quickly: thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump! It’s like your heart is trying to keep up with a race car instead of walking!

Why does it happen?

Sometimes, your heart gets a little excited or confused. Maybe you just ran around the block, or maybe something in your body sends it a "go faster!" message. That’s when your heart rate, how many times your heart beats each minute, goes up really high.

Think of it like this: Your heart is like a toy car on a track. Normally, it rolls along at a steady speed. But with tachycardia, it zooms past the finish line way too soon!
