What is sweetness?

Sweetness is how something tastes like sugar or candy when you eat it.

Imagine you have two kinds of cookies: one is plain, and the other has lots of sugar in it. The one with sugar feels happier on your tongue, that’s sweetness! It's like a little party happening inside your mouth every time you bite into something sweet.

What makes things sweet?

Some foods have natural sweetness, just like how fruit has juice and flavor. Think of an apple, it’s not as sweet as candy, but it still feels good on your tongue.

Other times, people add sugar or honey to food to make it sweeter. It's like giving a cookie extra joy, the more sugar you put in, the happier it becomes when you eat it!

Why we love sweetness

Your brain gets excited when you taste something sweet because your body thinks, “Yum! Energy coming my way!” That’s why you might reach for a candy bar after school, it feels like a little reward.
